Dr. Kenneth Owler Smith Memorial Scholarship 1998 Winners
Kenneth R. Carson, a second-year student at the School of Medicine, and Matthew J. Pippin, a junior in public administration, have been selected to receive the Dr. Kenneth Owler Smith Scholarships for 1998-1999.
Ken is from Orange, California and did his undergraduate work at USC. As an undergraduate, he served as President of Trojan Knights and was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. In medical school, he served as President of his First Year Class and is the student representative on the Medical School Finance and Budget Committee. He is the founder of a volunteer program in which USC medical students work with students from the Bravo Medical Magnet High School.
Matt is from Kamuela, Hawaii and is maintaining a 3.8 grade point average. He is President of the Public Administration Students Association and served as Under-Secretary General of the Model United Nations. He is the founder and currently director of the Trojan Basketball Association, a basketball league and mentoring program bringing together USC students with local youth.
